New WhatsApp Update Introduces Favourites Feature for Enhanced Chat and Call Organisation

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that allows users to mark certain contacts as favourites. This was announced by the company on a recent Tuesday. With this update, users can position frequently contacted people at the top of the screen in both WhatsApp Chats and Calls. This update also introduces a filter on the instant messaging platform. The release follows a few weeks after WhatsApp launched Context Cards, which aim to enhance security when users are added to unfamiliar group chats.

According to a blog post from WhatsApp, the new favourites feature will help users organise their chats more efficiently. By categorising frequent contacts under the favourites filter, accessing important conversations becomes more streamlined. The update adds the favourites filter alongside the existing All, Unread, and Groups filters.

This feature extends to the Calls tab as well, offering users the same organisational benefits for their call logs. Instructions for adding contacts to favourites will be provided within the app. Although the feature is announced to start rolling out immediately, some staff members from Gadgets 360 were not able to confirm its presence on both Android and iOS versions of WhatsApp. It's plausible that the rollout is phased, thus it may take some time to reach all devices.

Alongside the rollout of the favourites feature, WhatsApp is also reportedly testing various other new functionalities. These include a live translation tool for chats, transcription capabilities for voice messages, and a video note mode dedicated to the camera user interface. These features are currently in the development phase and might be accessible only to beta testers registered through the Google Play Beta program.
